When the cast of J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII” was first announced back in May, most of the new names were familiar, at least to the savvy cinephile: John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Max Von Sydow. But there was one face who was essentially a total newcomer, 22-year-old British actress Daisy Ridley, and if the rumors are correct, she, along with Boyega, is going to be the lead of the entire trilogy (and, possibly, the daughter of Han and Leia). Ridley is a Londoner who made her acting debut last year in long-running medical drama “Casualty” (something like national service for British actors, Kate Winslet, Orlando Bloom, Ray Winstone, Tom Hiddleston and Martin Freeman all had early gigs on the series), and has appeared steadily on TV since, cropping up in youth drama “Youngers,” the excellent comedy “Toast Of London,” and the murder procedural “Silent Witness.” Her most substantial part so far has been opposite Jeremy Piven in the period drama “Mr. Selfridge.” She’s also got a lead role in the low-budget British horror film “Scrawl” in the can, and was to supposed to make an appearance in smash hit comedy sequel “The Inbetweeners 2,” but when reshoots were required, they clashed with her next gig, and the part had to be recast. But when that next job is “Star Wars,” you probably aren’t too upset by that. Ridley is busy filming her first trip to a galaxy far, far way, and is currently the only cast member confirmed to be returning for Rian Johnson’s “Episode VIII” and “Episode IX.” The last time we had a female lead in a “Star Wars” movie, we got Natalie Portman, so we’re expecting equally big things from Ridley.

Television, Youngers

Back in 2013, Daisy appeared in one episode of tv series ‘Youngers’, episode 1×05 titled “A to B and the Apology”. We added HD screen captures in our gallery, enjoy!

DIGITAL SPY – Daisy Ridley’s appearance in The Inbetweeners 2 has been cut.

The newcomer was due to star in the comedy in an unspecified role, but her scenes have since been re-shot with a different actress, due to Ridley’s busy schedule with Star Wars Episode VII.

“We’ve cut her out of the film,” co-creator Iain Morris told Yahoo! Movies.

“She [was] in the opening of the film. We reshot the opening because the script didn’t work. We desperately wanted Daisy to come back and do it because she’s brilliant, really funny. But by that point she was doing Star Wars.”

Co-writer Damon Beesley added. “She wasn’t available because of Star Wars contractual commitments. She wanted to do it… She’s brilliant and she’ll be a huge star.”

He continued: “We cast her before she got the role in Star Wars.”

Ridley was perhaps the biggest surprise among the main cast of JJ Abrams’s upcoming Star Wars sequel, to be released in 2015.

VOGUE – When Vogue invited Daisy Ridley to this year’s annual Costume Institute Gala, the ingénue was forced to decline the offer without question. And now we know why she was so busy: Rumors spread this weekend that she and John Boyega, another relatively anonymous British actor, will be the main characters in the upcoming Star Wars installment. Production has been kept so tightly under wraps that, while it was announced months ago that Boyega and Ridley would be a part of the ensemble for J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: Episode VII (alongside Vogue’s July cover girl Lupita Nyong’o and Girls’s Adam Driver), it was not until this weekend’s leak of rumored plot details that we discovered that Ridley and Boyega will be the “heroes,” inheriting a mantle of instant stardom more recently bestowed on Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen, who led Episodes II and III.

Ridley’s largest role to date was a cameo on last year’s Jeremy Piven–led TV drama, Mr. Selfridge. The 22-year-old Boyega, born to Nigerian parents in Peckham, has some minor sci-fi experience, having been featured in Attack the Block, a 2011 film about a gang of South London teenagers who protect their neighborhood from invading aliens. But none of their previous roles even comes close to the kind of blockbuster parts they’ll be assuming for Star Wars. In Episode VII, Boyega reportedly plays a reformed storm trooper who teams up with Ridley’s character to return an aging Luke Skywalker’s lost light saber. And some have speculated that, in true Hollywood fashion, their partnership leads to a romance. Ridley and Boyega may have slipped under your radar thus far, but prepare to see this generation’s Luke and Leia everywhere starting next year.

EMPIRE – It had already been revealed that Star Wars: Episode VII would screen in IMAX cinemas, but until today it had not been officially announced that parts of the film would be shot in IMAX as well, with the following tweet from @BadRobot making it very clear indeed.

This announcement follows on from a similar trick pulled by director J.J. Abrams for Star Trek Into Darkness, which also boasted a decent chunk of extra-largesse – 50 minutes’ worth – in among the not-quite-as-big stuff.

This means that we’ll be seeing plenty of film for Star Wars: Episode VII, with the 35mm it has proudly boasted about before now being complemented by 70mm to boot – and for some stunning desert-set sequences, from the looks of things.

Other recent Star Wars news has seen two new actors being cast, which you can find out more about here, and if you feel like getting extra-excited about the new journey to a galaxy far, far away, here’s our 30 Greatest Star Wars Characters feature.

Starring veterans Hamill, Ford, Fisher, Daniels, Mayhew as well as Wars newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie and Max von Sydow, Star Wars: Episode VII will be out on December 18, 2015.

EMPIRE -In 1770, Captain Cook navigating the eastern fringes of the Australian continent mapping the coastline, counting wombats and generally dicing with death in an intrepid and largely clunge-free voyage. Two hundred and forty four years later, Jay, Will, Simon and Neil will be trying to rectify that oversight in The Inbetweeners 2 when they land Down Under with “puss-ay” in mind and a wad of Aussie dollars in their pockets. The movie has a new trailer that you can enjoy/savour/cringe in horror from below.

Boardshort wankers and bongo players beware because the foursome are touching down in Australia to pursue fauna of an entirely different kind. Alongside Gap Yah types, Bryon Bay hippies and party-hardy Aussies, all the old staples will be present and (in)correct. There’ll be jokes about Will’s mum, Simon still has girlfriend issues and Jay is one joke from prison.

Say The Inbetweeners’ creators, writing/directing team Iain Morris and Damon Beesley: “We’re especially happy with the trailer as we think it’s funny and – we promise – none of the best jokes are in it. None. We did that so that hopefully you’ll still get surprised in the cinema, and enjoy the film even more.”

James Buckley, Blake Harrison, Joe Thomas and Simon Bird are back in front of the camera, joined by recent Star Wars addition Daisy Ridley, Celeste Cotton, David Schaal, Larissa Jones and Susan Wokoma. The Inbetweeners 2 is set to bother our cinemas on August 6.

ANDOVER ADVERTISER – THE lead actress in the new Star Wars film also stars in an Andover-made movie to be screened for the first time next month.

The local production Scrawl was filmed on the town’s streets and at Sparsholt, and features Star Wars’ actress Daisy Ridley.

Earlier this month, Daisy was named the new female lead for Star Wars VII and although her role has not yet been confirmed by Disney and Lucasfilm, she is set to act alongside Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

But before her Hollywood debut, the 21-yearold, who has also appeared in Channel 4’s Youngers and has made guest appearances in Casualty and Silent Witness, filmed around Andover for Andover College’s student production of Scrawl.

Daisy came on board for the project two years ago while she was filming Casualty, and the horror film is set to be shown to students and supporters of Andover College next month. It will then be sent to festivals across the world in the hope that it will pick up accolades.
